COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS - Postal History

1181  1908 use of Western Australian 1d Postal Card to Malta with message dated "5/4/08" stating "...leaving Cocos in a few weeks...", Perth departure datestamp & Malta arrival datestamp on face, some edge blemishes and a tad soiled. [Telegraphic message was sent from Cocos to Perth, transcribed onto the postal card and then mailed out]

1182  1939 Indian Ocean Survey Flight per Flying Boat Guba addressed to Burns Philp Tulagi, British Solomons, cover originating at Port Moresby via Rose Bay (NSW) thence to Mombasa via Cocos with very fine 'C&W Ltd/12JUN39/COCOS' transit datestamp and Seychelles, registered at Kisumu (Kenya) for the return flight, signed by four crew members Archbold, Rogers, Yancey & Booth. Cover slightly reduced on reverse and some condition issues. Still attractive and rare.

LTD/10NOV50/COCOS' 31mm arrival backstamp. [PO Box 146 in Singapore was reserved for mail to & from Cocos. The Christmas Island Phosphate Co owned the Islander which called at Cocos about three times per year with provisions and mail]
