3125381  1854 (Sep 10) outer to France "pr Steamer Croesus" with 3d Laureate tied by Bars cancel of Sydney, '15' handstamp in black fine boxed 'COLONIES/&C ART.13' handstamp, Calais transit datestamp on face, Sydney departure and Paris arrival backstamps. [The Croesus broke both propellers en route via Cape Horn and proceeded to Ascension Island under sail, once a new propeller was fitted she continued to Calais via St Vincent (Cape Verde) & Southampton]

3124931  1940 (May 25) registered use of 3c Stationery Envelope (additional stamp washed off) from Vancouver to Dewsbury, England, carried on board SS Eros, which was torpedoed by a German submarine off the NW Coast of Ireland, and subsequently beached with the aid of tugs, 'SALVED FROM THE SEA' cachet Hoggarth & Gwynn Eros Type 2 cachet applied by Liverpool Post Office with poorly struck '27JUL/40' Liverpool transit datestamp at top left, 'PASSED BY CENSOR' handstamp, resealing tape on reverse; front & back of cover have separated.
