AUSTRALIA Decimal Issues

840 Δ 1979 Steam Locomotives Undenominated Essay similar to 50c design but in unissued colours, with diagonal white line across lower left corner, in a sheet of 14 impressions with colour controls at right BW #846E(1)A, vertical & horizontal folds affect two of the impressions, Cat $1,000. [Brusden White states at page 9/259 The exact purpose of these essays is not known, but these were apparently used for experiments in layout and colour control markings.] (see Lot 838 & Lot 839).

1694 * The Great Barrier Pigeongram Agency Perf 11½-12: 6d blue & 1/- red triangulars CP #VP7 & 8. The 1/- is believed to be a forgery, although Campbell Paterson notes that it may be an early essay released in error. He had only seen one example. An imperforate example is also recorded. (2)
