1172  1846 (May 24) lettersheet addressed locally to "His Honor C.J.Latrobe Esq/H.M. Superintendent" with fine strike of 'FREE/MELBOURNE' boxed handstamp in red, backstamped 'MELBOURNE/(crown)/MY24/184[6]/PORT PHILLIP' on (detached) backflap. 1,000.00 This lot is no longer available
1174  1849 (May 3) outer from Warnambool to Portland, marked "Registered", rated "11d" in red, showing scarce framed 'MISSENT TO/[POR]T FAIRY' and, on reverse, crown oval NSW datestamps of Port Fairy & Portland (poor). [Postage was based on distance and for the 65 miles concerned it should have been 8d, so 3d overpaid. Although "Warnambool" is endorsed on the reverse and the sender has a Warrnambool address it is possible the letter was carried to Melbourne and posted there, in which case 11d would be the correct rate.] Ex Ray Kelly, Max Watson, Brian Peace. 675.00 This lot is no longer available
