QUEENSLAND - DOCUMENTS & EPHEMERA

379   1908 Franco-British Exhibition: photographs, taken by Henry Mobsby, of the Queensland Court at the 1908 Franco-British Exhibition, one titled 'Director and Staff, Pagoda Enquiry Office' the other showing flour and cotton displays (small repaired corner). [Mobsby had taken over as official artist and photographer for the Department of Agriculture in 1904 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1930.] (2)

960   1936 Signed Letter to Prime Minister Joseph Lyons and His Reply: an official copy of a 3-page letter from David Dow, Official Secretary for the Commonwealth of Australia in New York, suggesting that, as the title of Official Secretary was undefined from a diplomatic point of view, it was time to upgrade the status and staff so that an exaquatur (an official recognition by a government of a consul or other representative of a foreign state, authorizing them to exercise office) could be accepted by the USA. At the time Australia was using the British Embassy for its formal diplomatic relationship with the USA. Quite an interesting letter, also includes the signed reply from the Prime Minister, Joseph Lyons. Plus 1934 ...Government Office ...Commonwealth of Australia ... New York cover to Australia, 'Per S.S. MARIPOSA/via San Pedro' handstamp on face, corner damage at pottom right. (3)

The only example we have seen.
