2614531  1888 (Nov 22) Envelope with 'Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1888/...' imprint at lower-left & Exhibition embossing in gold on the flap, the OHMS heading crossed-through & endorsed Card only, with slits cut at the sides to permit postal inspection, curiously registered with Astley 6d tied by killer '1' cancel of Melbourne, poor oval 'REGISTERED/MELBOURNE' datestamp & fine 'R' handstamp below, German 'KB BAHNPOST/27/DEZ/88' TPO backstamp & imperf 'Vom Auslande/uber Bahnpost/Kufstein-Munchen' registration label, minor blemishes. An extraordinary usage. [The printed matter rate was only 2d + 4d registration]

2614581   1880 Melbourne International Exhibition: glass plate negative (cracked), with photographic print taken from it, attributed to John William Lindt (1845-1926), showing view of part of the British Court. [LIndt lost his photographic business in the financial crisis of 1894. He then ran a successul holiday resort, near Healesville, called The Hermitage, and died in the 1926 bushfires.] (2)
