2614749  1891 Australian Station Mail cover from Scotland with 1d lilac tied by superb 'DUNDEE/OC1/91 - 114' duplex, to John W Sutton/HMS Paluma/Brisbane Queensland with 'COOKTOWN/NO30/91/QUEENSLAND' cds on the face & Sydney backstamp of DE9/91, sent back to England where redirected several times to HMSs Victory, Vernon, Orlando & Seagull where endorsed on the flap "Arrived here? not known on Seagull so I have sent it back so you can see where it has been", also endorsed on the face "Not Known/in/Asia", various GB markings & finally returned to sender with superb 'PAIGNTON/JY28/02' cds on the face, rather soiled but oozing character. [In 1891, HMS Paluma was loaned to the Queensland Government to assist with the Queensland Survey]

Addressed to USA and bearing oval handstamp of 'THE COMMANDING OFFICER/-9MAY1962/H.M.S. JAGUAR' (which was/is a frigate of the - wait for it - Leopard type and came into service in 1957). Clean as a whistle. [HMS Jaguar made a two-day visit to Tristan Da Cunha 16/17th 1962]
