[The SA Rly made up the difference between the army pay and the railway pay for their employees.]

PORTUGAL - Military - World War I Period

2587545  1917 (Mar 16 - handwritten date) use of colour Inter-Art PPC by an officer of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps (at the time, part of the British 5th Army) to Lisbon. Two very similar British Army Postal Service pmks - 'C.E.P/(date)/S.P.C.6.' and '... /S.P.C.8.' (in each case the date is unclear) alongside a enclosed semi-circle 'CENSURADO/No. 6' in pink over which the writer has signed as self-censor, Lisbon arrival machine postmark March 22. [The PPC illustration is captioned 'IF I COULD ONLY MAKE PEACE!']
