2128  1832 (Jan 27) inbound outer from London headed "On the Service of the Australian Agricultural Company" addressed to "Captn Sir W. Edward Parry" (the company's Commissioner in charge of NSW enterprises), and sent "Pr Agnes/17Jan'y1832", endorsed "2oz" & "2/8" with '(Crown)/GENERAL POST OFFICE/12JU12/1832/SYDNEY' Type S3 oval arrival datestamp in blue, forwarded to Port Stephens with manuscript "Received at Lambton from Sydney, 15 June 1832." Important early correspondence pertaining to pastoral trade development in NSW. [The rate of 2/8d equated to 8d per ½oz x4 for a letter up to 2oz]

Very few on-cover examples of the Detained handstamp are recorded, this cover illustrated by White on p262 of 'The Postal History of New South Wales.'

Fine and attractive.
