2611346  1939 (May) cover Melbourne to Germany paying airmail to Italy with 3d blue x3 & 2d red (paying 11d postcard rate). Fine boxed 'RETURNED [FOR] ADDITIONAL POSTAGE/SHORT-PAID "1/4D"/POSTAL DEPARTMENT/COM'LTH OF AUSTRALIA' on face. The under-payment was 10d, so we are not sure why the charge of 1/4d (16d) was applied. The 1/4d stamp has been removed. Plus three air covers to Europe in the 1948-51 period. (4)

2614749  1891 Australian Station Mail cover from Scotland with 1d lilac tied by superb 'DUNDEE/OC1/91 - 114' duplex, to John W Sutton/HMS Paluma/Brisbane Queensland with 'COOKTOWN/NO30/91/QUEENSLAND' cds on the face & Sydney backstamp of DE9/91, sent back to England where redirected several times to HMSs Victory, Vernon, Orlando & Seagull where endorsed on the flap "Arrived here? not known on Seagull so I have sent it back so you can see where it has been", also endorsed on the face "Not Known/in/Asia", various GB markings & finally returned to sender with superb 'PAIGNTON/JY28/02' cds on the face, rather soiled but oozing character. [In 1891, HMS Paluma was loaned to the Queensland Government to assist with the Queensland Survey]

2588135  1945 12+8pf Home Guard Mobilisation variety White shoulder lapel [posn 35] Mi #908.VII on locally used registered envelope (with Hitler 6pf and 12pf pair) tied 'LUDWIGSHAFEN (RHEIN)/12.3.45-17/b' cds alongside registration label and handstamped commercial cachet of the local iron foundry. Backstamp following day, some pencil notations. Rare stamp on cover, even more so with the variety. Expertised E Peschl.
