1189  1857 (Jun 25) double-rate cover to San Francisco per "What-Cheer" with imperf 6d Woodblocks x2 (both fine with complete margins) tied by BN '1' cancel, American 'SHIP/6' postage due handstamp and largely superb 'SAN FRANCISCO/AU/31/1857/CAL' arrival datestamp on face, addressee's name excised, otherwise fine condition. [Not recorded in Ben Palmer's census]
