3119423  1853 (May 8) Adams & Co printed envelope addressed to "Purser of Steamer New Orleans" care of Adams & Co, Melbourne, 'ADAMS & CO/EXPRESS/16 WALL ST/NEW YORK' shield embossed in red at upper-left, containing original letter dated "New York May 8th 1853", envelope with no postal markings, carried per favour or possibly by the company's courier. [Adams & Co private express company was founded by Freeman Cobb & George Mowton in 1853, Cobb left shortly aferwards to found the renowned Cobb & Co coaching business]
