1872 1d Plate 166

SG #43, an amazing left marginal 4x7 block of 28, Rows C to I, columns A to D, with part of the marginal inscription '. . D SIDE of the Letter' and the full exhortation 'In Wetting the Back be careful not to remove the Cement'. Two units at the bottom (Row I) have SW corner damage, centring varies from top to bottom, small gum imperfections, some neat reinforcements but most units are unhinged. A remarkable piece from a plate known to have had repairs, very conservative cat £1400 as hinged singles. (28)

1869 1d Rose-Red Plate 136

SG #43, an impressive 6x3 block of 18, Rows G to I, columns A to F. Horizontal crease through top (G) row, some staining on back (from removed gum?) visible on front of two units, reasonably well-centred with good strong colour, cat £1800 as hinged singles. Scarce large multiple. (18)

1869 1d Rose-Red Plate 133

SG #43, an impressive 3x3 block of 9, Rows H to J, columns G to I. some light residual gum, removable adhesions, well-centred with good strong colour, cat £1125 as hinged singles. Scarce large multiple. (9)

2/- Maroon

watermark inverted, BW #38a, Cat $1500 (POR in most retail lists), off-centre high a small nick and toning around heavy hinge remains at top, 2008 certificate of Philatelic Federation of South Africa (Pretoria). Very scarce stamp.
