Typed notes of shipping route included.

1098  1854 (Sep 10) outer to France "pr Steamer Croesus" with 3d Laureate tied by Bars cancel of Sydney, '15' handstamp in black fine boxed 'COLONIES/&C ART.13' handstamp, Calais transit datestamp on face, Sydney departure and Paris arrival backstamps. [The Croesus broke both propellers en route via Cape Horn and proceeded to Ascension Island under sail, once a new propeller was fitted she continued to Calais via St Vincent (Cape Verde) & Southampton]

Rare genuine but unauthorised usage of bisect on cover from a tiny rural post office which had apparently run out of 2½d & ½d stamps.
