COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS - Military - World War II Period

1196  Indian Army FPO 46 1945 use of formular air letter, headed 'SECURITY: - THINK - BEFORE YOU WRITE!!', to UK with good strike of 'FPO/No 46/21AUG45' datestamp, the letter headed "37/13 Ind HAA Regt 1A/SEAC" with fine strike of 'UNIT CENSOR/R.722' handstamp in violet used at Cocos. [On completion of the Cocos airstrip in March 1945, the garrison had built up to approx 5,000 personnel including contingents from the Royal Indian Air Force plus Indian and Sinhalese ground troops]

1201  Royal Air Force PO 301 1945 (Oct 1) stampless OAS cover to England with fair strike of 'RAFPOST 301/1OCT45' datestamp, enclosed three-page letter headed "SECTION H / SECTION 301/RAF/CEYLON AIR FORCES" describes an ENSA concert by Gracie Fields compèred by her husband Monty Banks, but complains "the boys disagree with wasting transport to bring stars to the Far East, when the Government babbles about transport difficulties for getting the lads home;- and mail is held up in Ceylon owing to lack of of air facilities to bring it to the remote Cocos Islands!", cover with minor blemishes only.
