1348  1853 (May 8) Adams & Co printed envelope addressed to "Purser of Steamer New Orleans" care of Adams & Co, Melbourne, 'ADAMS & CO/EXPRESS/16 WALL ST/NEW YORK' shield embossed in red at upper-left, containing original letter dated "New York May 8th 1853", envelope with no postal markings, carried per favour or possibly by the company's courier. Very fine condition. Ex Haas & Lancaster. [This lot is accompanied by a copy of Alan Levy's 'Collectors Club Philatelist' May 1982 article "Adams & Co.'s Express - The Melbourne, Australia, Branch"]

1350  1855-56 inward covers (3) with GB embossed 6d or 1/- (all cut-to-shape) from England to Melbourne and then redirected to Heathcote. All with red Butterflies on face of '14', '34' & '48', '34' being particularly rare with only one other recorded. Notes on each of the ships is included. (3)

Colombo, but without the usual cachet, manuscript annotation on face "Received under/Post Office cover/7th Febry 63".
